SAMSR stepper motor driver alarm

Stepper driver alarms are indicated by the product status indicator. Generally, the stepping driver has two status indicators of red and green, of which each manufacturer has a different definition of traffic light flashing, the following is an example of a vertical three-step driver, the green light is the power indicator, when the driver is powered on, the green light flashes; The red light is a fault light. When an overvoltage or overcurrent fault occurs, the fault light flashes. The red light goes off after the fault clears. The technician can determine the type of fault by the number of red and green flashes.

The power supply light is not on, this is likely to be a failure of the power supply, at this time we also need to check the power supply circuit power supply, whether one of the wires is broken.

What to do if stepper motor driver alarm?

First of all, it is necessary to clarify what the fault is, and different faults have different causes and corresponding solutions.

Digital drives such as NDM872 now indicate a fault code through a fault LED, as follows:

First, the fault indicator flashes 1 time, and the driver reports an overcurrent fault, the cause:

1. The wiring of the motor is incorrect, especially when connecting the 8-wire motor, the wiring of the end of the same name is not correct, and the wiring needs to be adjusted;

2. Short circuit of motor winding, this situation occurs after the driver and motor application for a period of time, the main reason is that the output current of the driver does not match the rated current of the motor, or the working environment temperature of the motor is too high, resulting in the motor winding damage short circuit, this situation needs to replace the motor;

3. The internal circuit of the drive is damaged, in this case, the drive needs to be replaced;

Second, the fault indicator flashes 2 times the driver reports overvoltage fault, the cause: the internal bus voltage of the driver exceeds the maximum limit value of the driver, the general nominal working voltage of the driver, refers to the voltage range allowed by the internal bus of the driver, does not refer to the power supply voltage range, the use of a certain safety margin, especially when using linear power supply, the user needs to consider the grid voltage fluctuation, linear power supply no-load change rate, and the driver drive voltage high-speed operation emergency stop generated bus voltage pump rise, etc.

This situation can be solved by a suitable supply voltage. For example, the working voltage range of NDM442 is 20~50VDC, and the recommended power supply voltage is 24VDC/36VDC.

Third, the fault indicator flashes 4 times to report the motor phase loss fault, the cause: the motor winding wiring is loose or the motor phase wiring is wrong, and the motor wiring can be solved.

Fault indication and analysis of stepper drive system

Stepper drive systems generally have two indicators, red and green. Among them, the green LED is the power indicator, and when the drive is connected to the power, the LED is always on; When the driver cuts off power, this LED turns off. The red LED is a fault indicator, when a fault occurs, the indicator flashes cyclically in 3 seconds; When the fault is cleared by the user, the red LED is always off. The number of red LED flashes in 3 seconds represents different fault messages,

After the drive fault prompt, the user needs to power off the drive according to the code prompt information, power off the corresponding fault, and then power on the drive again to clear the fault.

When the red indicator of the drive flashes once, it means that the driver has overcurrent or phase to phase short circuit, then check whether the motor wiring is correct, especially if the motor is an 8-wire motor, if the bearing end of the winding is incorrect, the drive will report a short circuit fault. In the actual application site, if the replacement motor drive still reports a short circuit fault, the drive can be confirmed to be damaged, and the user should directly replace the drive with the same specification.

When the red indicator of the driver flashes 2 times, it means that the driver has an overvoltage alarm, and the user should appropriately reduce the voltage of the power supply, if the user increases the working voltage of the power supply in order to improve high-speed performance, the product with the relevant higher voltage level of the corresponding driver should be selected.

When the red indicator of the drive flashes 4 times, it indicates that the motor is open or poorly contacted. When this phenomenon occurs, the user should check whether the motor wiring is reliable, or replace the motor for testing, if the fault still occurs after replacing the motor, the drive is damaged, and it is recommended to replace the drive with the same specification.
