The components that make a programmable logic controller (PLC) work mainly include the following parts:

1. Central Processing Unit (CPU):

- Function: The CPU is the core part of the PLC, responsible for executing the control program and processing input and output information. It receives the program written by the user, scans the input signal, performs logical operations, timing, counting and other operations, and then controls the output device.

- Importance: The performance of the CPU directly affects the processing speed and efficiency of the PLC and is the core of the entire PLC system.

2. Memory:

- Function: It is used to store system programs and user programs, as well as data, parameters and other information. Memory usually includes read-only memory (ROM) and programmable read-only memory (such as EPROM or EEPROM), which are used to store system programs and user-written control programs respectively.

- Type: Read-only memory (ROM) stores system programs, and programmable read-only memory (such as EPROM) is used to store user programs.

3. Input/output interface (I/O interface):

- Function: The I/O interface is the connection bridge between the PLC and external devices (such as sensors, switches, motors, etc.). The input interface is used to receive external signals (such as switching quantity, analog quantity, etc.) and convert these signals into digital signals that can be processed inside the PLC; the output interface converts the digital signals processed by the PLC into control signals and outputs them to external devices.

- Module: includes input module and output module, which are used to receive and send signals respectively.

4. Power supply:

- Function: Provide stable voltage and current for PLC to ensure the normal operation of the entire system.

The power supply module usually includes parts such as rectifier circuit, filter circuit and voltage stabilization circuit, which converts the external power supply into the DC voltage required by the PLC.

5. Programming equipment and software:

- Function: Used to write, debug and modify the control program of PLC. The programming device can be a handheld terminal, computer, etc., and the programming software provides a graphical or textual programming interface to facilitate users to write and modify programs.

- Operation: Through the programming software, users can download the written program to the memory of the PLC to realize remote control and monitoring of the PLC.

6. Communication interface:

- Function: Used for data exchange and communication between PLC and other devices or systems.

The communication interface can be a serial port, Ethernet interface, etc., supporting multiple communication protocols (such as Modbus, Profibus, etc.), which facilitates the connection and data transmission between PLC and host computers, sensor networks and other devices.

7. Extension module (optional):

- Function: used to expand the input and output points, CPU speed, storage capacity and other functions of PLC to meet more complex control requirements. Extension modules can include analog input and output modules, communication modules, special interface modules, etc.

In summary, these components work together to enable PLC to achieve flexible and efficient control of industrial automation production lines.

In actual applications, users can choose the appropriate PLC model and configure the corresponding components according to specific needs.

Components that enable a programmable logic controller to work include:

1. Power supply: provide energy for the entire system.

2. Central processing unit (CPU): as a control center, it processes all input and output signals and executes program instructions.

3. Communication interface: used for data communication and information exchange with other devices.

These components work together to enable programmable logic controllers to implement their specific functions and tasks.
